Create Your First Venue Layout
This guide will walk you through creating your first venue seating layout in SeatSquirrel.
Step 1: Access the Layouts Page
Navigate to Layouts from the main navigation bar, then click New Layout to start designing.
Step 2: Add Rows of Seats
- Click the Row Tool in the toolbar (or press
R) - Click once on the canvas to set the start point of your row
- Move your mouse to see a preview of the seats
- Click again to set the end point of your row
The row will be created with seats automatically distributed along it.
Step 3: Configure Row Properties
Select a row to edit its properties in the Properties Panel:
- Seat Count: Adjust the number of seats in the row
- Curve: Add curvature to create curved rows (-1 to 1)
- Spacing: Adjust the distance between seats
- Row Label: Change the row identifier (A, B, C, etc.)
- Seat Labels: Configure how seats are numbered
Step 4: Add Pricing Categories
- Open the Pricing Categories section in the Properties Panel
- Click Add Category to create a new pricing tier
- Set the name, price, and color for each category
- Assign categories to rows or individual seats
Step 5: Add Areas
Areas are bookable spaces without individual seats (e.g., standing areas, VIP sections).
- Click the Area Tool in the toolbar
- Choose a shape (rectangle, circle, polygon, or custom)
- Click and drag to create the area
- Configure purchase type and pricing in the Properties Panel
Step 6: Save Your Layout
- Click the Save button in the top toolbar
- Enter a name for your layout
- Your layout will be saved to the database
Step 7: Test in Picker Mode
- Return to Layouts
- Click the Preview button on your layout card
- Configure pricing (if needed) and test the seat selection experience

Speed up your workflow with these keyboard shortcuts:
- V: Select tool
- H: Hand/Pan tool
- G: Rectangle tool
- C: Circle tool
- P: Polygon tool
- L: Line tool
- T: Text tool
- Cmd/Ctrl + Z: Undo
- Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + Z: Redo
- Delete: Delete selected items
- Space (hold): Temporary pan mode
